Newcastle United loanee sat at zero minutes at new club as permanent exit dream fades

Antonio Cordero is not the only Newcastle United player who is having a disaster out on loan.

The Spaniard moved to KVC Westerlo soon after his arrival at St James’ Park, with the intention of continuing his development through more senior football after his Malaga exploits.

However, that is not how things are panning out. Antonio Cordero is barely playing for Westerlo, having found himself out of their last two matchday squads.

It is a difficult situation for the 18-year-old, but things are even more concerning for fellow Toon youngster Travis Hernes.

Travis Hernes yet to play a single minute on loan

Hernes impressed Eddie Howe in the summer, but did not remain a part of the Newcastle United squad.

Instead, the midfielder was sent on loan to Dutch side Groningen. It looked like a great opportunity for Hernes, who could still join them permanently next summer.

Hernes’ loan move includes an option to buy, but right now it is difficult to see why Groningen would activate that clause.

Having joined them on 2nd September, Hernes is yet to play a single minute for his new club. He was an unused substitute for Groningen’s first six Eredivisie games after his arrival, but is now not even getting on the bench.

The 20-year-old’s only appearance in the Netherlands has been at Under-21 level, as he becomes the latest Newcastle United academy star to endure a loan nightmare.

Trevan Sanusi also struggling away from Newcastle United

Newcastle United youngsters going out on loan and barely playing is a recurring theme this season.

Trevan Sanusi finds himself in a similar situation to Hernes and Cordero, although his is slightly different.

The 18-year-old winger was sent on loan to Ligue 1 outfit Lorient. It was a great move for a player who Newcastle United are very excited about.

However, Sanusi is yet to showcase why it is such a great move for him. He is yet to make his Lorient debut, with an ankle injury forcing him to remain on the sidelines.

Newcastle United will hope he gets plenty of minutes under his belt and makes up for lost time once he returns to fitness.
