**Anthony Elanga was selected by Graham Potter for his first Sweden squad as the new coach, despite not having really got going for Newcastle United this season.**
Newcastle fans are still waiting to see what we spent £55 million on in the summer, with the pacey winger yet to provide a single goal contribution.
We have seen momentary glimpses of what Elanga brings to the table, but they always seem to precede an error.
However, Sweden aren't exactly blessed with many more options, so Elanga has made it into the latest Sweden squad.

Anthony Elanga has kept his spot in the Sweden squad
Anthony Elanga knows what he has to do
--------------------------------------
Elanga has been speaking to [SVT](https://www.svt.se/sport/fotboll/anthony-elanga-om-troga-starten-i-newcastle-maste-bara-vara-redo) in Sweden about life at Newcastle, and he has admitted that all he can do is keep working and make sure he's ready when called upon.
> “In football, things happen quickly.“You can play one, two games and then start on the bench ten games in a row. So, you just have to be ready all the time.“We have the League Cup, the Champions League, the FA Cup which hasn’t even started yet and then we have the Premier League too. So, it’s important for me to be healthy so the opportunities will come, he says and continues.

> “You always get hungry; you always want to start and try to help the team. When you start and play several games, you build momentum. It’s important for a footballer to have that.”
It's way too early to write off Anthony Elanga as much as we may want to at times
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In fairness to Elanga, he's just one man in a catalogue of players underperforming for Newcastle lately, so we can't pin the blame firmly at his feet.
We also feel it's way too early to be writing him off as a poor signing, even though we sometimes want to when we watch him play.
Eddie Howe spent enough time looking at Elanga to know that he has what it takes to play his style of football, and we're sure that once Howe works out what that style needs to be after all the changes in the summer, we back Elanga to get on track.
