West Ham United have been linked with a risky forward buy from a Premier League rival club

West Ham United have begun to pick up results under Nuno Espirito Santo but as we enter the November international break, plans will be underway for the January transfer window as the Hammers look to do business which could ultimately save their season.

The relegation picture is difficult to call at present, with the Hammers and Nottingham Forest closing the gap on Burnley and Leeds United above them but a long way in the season yet to go.

West Ham have struggled across many areas of the pitch but one of their problem positions has been up front, as new signing Callum Wilson has started just three times since his summer arrival, whilst Niclas Fullkrug has been out since September and failed to find the net in his six appearances prior to that.

West Ham linked with Tottenham’s Manor Solomon

According to reports by Caught Offside, West Ham have enquired about Tottenham Hotspur winger Manor Solomon, who is currently out on loan at La Liga side Villarreal but is looking to terminate his loan spell in January due to a lack of playing time.

Villarreal are going strongly in third place in the Spanish top flight, and so Solomon has been restricted to just one league start. He has played just nine minutes of football in the last five matches combined, only getting onto the field once in that time, despite registering a decisive goal and an assist off the bench to secure two victories in September.

Solomon is not believed to have a future at Spurs and the club will look to offload him immediately if the 26-year-old does arrive back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January. He has made just six appearances for the Lilywhites since signing in 2023, but hit double figures on loan at Leeds in the Championship last season and previously impressed in the Premier League during half a season on loan at Fulham.

West Ham are now reportedly ‘in contact’ with Spurs over a January move for Solomon, after the player asked the north London club to return from loan in January so that he can get his career back on track.

Solomon to West Ham is another forward disaster waiting to happen

West Ham would be smart to avoid a move for Solomon in the January transfer window, as he would do little to improve their attacking unit and could ultimately prove to be another expensive waste of time and money.

Primarily a left-winger, Solomon would struggle to get into the side over Crysencio Summerville and would have no chance of displacing club captain Jarrod Bowen on the opposite flank. He would unlikely be trusted to start through the centre, either, with his short stature and a lack of experience in the role.

He could be another body of depth for the Hammers in attacking areas, granted, but do they really need him if all he will do is warm the bench? Especially when he will have come from one of their biggest rivals in Tottenham? This move would attract significant fanfare if it went wrong, and not of the good kind.

As West Ham continue to battle against relegation, the distraction of a risky move for a bitter rival’s outcast is the last thing the Hammers need, amidst continued fan criticism of the club’s poor recruitment. It is almost too easy to see how this one will end up before it has even happened.
