Newcastle United - what is success this season?

Newcastle United have missed just three Premier League seasons since its 1992 inception, but where do they stand in the all-time table?

The Magpies are becoming a regular fixture in the Champions League under Eddie Howe, and finally ended their long trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup last season, having lost in the final two years prior.

Newcastle have spent just seasons outside the Premier League since its inception in 1992, finishing second twice in the 1990s, while more recently, they’ve finished in the top five in two of the last three seasons. But where does all this leave Newcastle when it comes to the all-time Premier League table?

Newcastle part of exclusive Premier League club

Given their almost-ever-present status in the Premier League, it’ll come as little surprise to see Newcastle place so highly in the all-time table. Had the Magpies not been relegated twice and also spent the competition’s first season in the Second Division, they would be much closer to Everton in seventh place. Nevertheless, eighth place sees them above top-flight stalwarts such as Aston Villa and West Ham United, as well as former title winners Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City.

Newcastle are also well clear of their North East rivals, Middlesbrough and Sunderland, who sit 17th and 18th on 661 and 637 points, respectively, compared to 1,619 points for the Magpies - who are also one of just nine all-time Premier League teams to hold a positive goal difference in the competition.
