Ally McCoist makes horror suggestion for out-of-work manager to replace Daniel Farke at Leeds United

As time goes on with Daniel Farke under pressure and Leeds United fans pleading with the club to make a change in the dugout, more names are being linked – and Ally McCoist has a suggestion.

After an encouraging start that included wins against Wolves and Everton, and draws with Newcastle and Bournemouth, Leeds have since suffered four defeats in their last five. They’ve lost five of six games away.

There was sympathy for Farke, initially. The club’s inability to back him to the required standard in the transfer market, the doubts over his position as manager in the summer. Fans had backed the Leeds boss.

But the defeat at Forest has changed things. His decision to leave Willy Gnonto at home, bringing Jack Harrison on at left-back, waiting until the 74th minute to make changes. Leeds fans are feeling fed up.

Many have pleaded with the club to bring in a replacement during the November break, with the current schedule set to ramp up during the winter and Christmas period. Ally McCoist has suggested a suitor.

Ally McCoist suggests Steven Gerrard for Leeds United role

At one point, Steven Gerrard was seen as the long-term replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. The Anfield legend had starred in his role as Rangers manager, guiding McCoist’s old team to the title.

Since then, things have turned sour. A disappointing stint with Aston Villa in the Premier League, followed by a struggle in Saudi Arabia with an Al Ettifaq side that boasts Gini Wijnaldum and Moussa Dembele.

Gerrard remains in the hunt for his next job. The Mirror say Gerrard is on Middlesbrough’s three-man list to replace Rob Edwards, but McCoist told TalkSPORT (12/11, 9.25AM) that Leeds might consider him.

“Would Steven Gerrard be interested in the Leeds job? You’ve got to appreciate there is someone in the Leeds job. It is really important for Steven, his next appointment. It’s absolutely vital for him,” he said.

Why Steven Gerrard is the wrong pick for Leeds United

Leeds fans would rather their club steer clear of Gerrard. Not only has Gerrard now been out of work for almost a year, having left his last post in January, but Gerrard’s record in the Premier League is poor.

During his 40 games at Villa, Gerrard won just 13 times, losing on a further 19 occasions. Simon Jordan discussed Gerrard’s links with Leeds in the summer, and said he simply doesn’t merit the Leeds job.

Daniel Farke LeedsNorwich 60 9-10-41 37 0.62

Steven Gerrard Villa 38 12-8-18 44 1.16

There are other candidates, though Gerrard is high in the list of replacements with the bookies. Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers have been suggested, while Marco Silva could come into the fray.

For now, Farke remains in the Leeds dugout. LeedsUnited.News understands that Farke will be given until January but with Aston Villa, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool next, four losses could speed things up.
