Report: Senior Wolves figure now set for promotion amid Rob Edwards appointment

Wolves have appointed Rob Edwards as their new manager, and one executive at the club is reportedly in line for a promotion.

Wolves have today confirmed Edwards as Vitor Pereira’s successor, and fans hope this will be the start of a revival.

It has been a dismal season for Wolves, who currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table.

Pereira simply had to go, and Edwards is now tasked with keeping the club up. It will be an extremely tall order, with Wanderers having so many issues right now.

But Wolves are confident Edwards can unite the club, and there is real optimism that this can be a smart appointment for the long term.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how he gets on, and today, there is also word of an expected role change for one of the club’s top executives.

It is safe to say that Wolves’ restructure in June hasn’t really worked out.

Domenico Teti has already left his role as director of professional football after just a few months, and Pereira has obviously been sacked.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Teti and Pereira had a big say over recruitment in the summer, following the exit of Matt Hobbs as sporting director.

The sporting director role was actually dissolved by Wolves – but it now looks like it could be back.

According to the Telegraph, Matt Jackson is now expected to be promoted to the sporting director role.

At the moment, he is the club’s director of player recruitment and development, but it seems Wolves are ready to restore the role of sporting director and place Jackson in that position.

This claim comes after journalist Liam Keen suggested another restructure could happen at Wolves, with Jackson currently the most senior football figure.

Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?

A huge opportunity for Jackson

So Jackson looks like he’ll be Edwards’ right-hand man moving forward – and this is a huge moment for him.

Wolves need a very strong January window after such a poor summer window, and Jackson will now be the man tasked with delivering targets for the new manager.

He must quickly build a relationship with Edwards and the recruitment team, so that they’re all ready to attack the January window with a decisiveness that just wasn’t there in the summer.

It could well be another very tough window, because Wolves’ situation is not exactly glamorous right now.

But it’s one that could help Jackson’s stock soar if he gets it right and Wolves have a considerably better second half of the season than first.
