Report: Bayern Munich 3-2 Arsenal Women

We went 2-0 up but lost 3-2 away to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Wednesday night.

Goals from Emily Fox and Mariona Caldentey had us looking good for three points, but Alara pulled one back before Pernille Harder equalised and Glodis Viggosdottir scored a third.

### first half

It took just five minutes for us to open the scoring at the Fußball Arena München, Beth Mead shooting from a narrow angle and the ball re-bounding to Emily Fox, who headed it over Maria-Luisa Grohs and into the back of the net.

Mariona was next to go for goal from distance, but her effort was straight at Grohs, who caught the ball comfortably.

Bayern had their first sight of goal as Klara Buhl crossed in from the left for Lea Schuller, who curled it into Daphne van Domselaar’s gloves.

At the other end, Alessia Russo crossed for Stina Blackstenius, who connected with the ball first time, only to see her strike fly off of the crossbar and over.

It was 2-0 moments later though, as Mead won possession and found Blacktenius, who layed it off for Mariona on the edge of the area, and she shifted it onto her right foot before curls the ball into the top right corner for 2-0.

Blackstenius bent a shot wide of the bottom right corner from the edge of the 18-yard box and Caitlin Foord drove towards goal and fired just past the bottom left corner as we continued to search for a third goal with half-time approaching.

### SECOND HALF

Our first opportunity of the second half came in the 53rd minute as Russo volleyed towards the bottom right, but Grohs got down to ler left to make the save.

Russo had another go just two minutes later after she was found by Victoria Pelova, stinging the palms of Grohs with more power on this occasion, before Pelova curled our next attempt over the bar.

We made our first two changes of the night with just over half an hour remaining, with Frida Maanum and Chloe Kelly coming on for Blackstenius and Foord.

Bayern pulled one back in the 67th minute though, going on the counter-attack and Alara poking the ball past Van Domselaar for 2-1.

15 minutes were left on the clock when we introduced Kyra Cooney-Cross and Taylor Hinds in place of Pelova and McCabe in an effort to control the lead with some fresh legs.

We unfortunately lost that lead as Harder picked out the top left corner to equalise with 10 minutes remaining.

Van Domselaar made sure we didn’t go behind when she tipped Buhl’s effort over the bar in the 85th minute, but Bayern did take the lead courtesy of Viggosdottir moments later to make it 3-2 to the home side.

### WHAT’S NEXT

Our first north London derby of the season. We take on Tottenham Hotspur at Brisbane Road in Sunday’s 2.30pm kick-off, before returning to Champions League action against Real Madrid at Meadow Park on Wednesday, November 19 (8pm).
