[Liverpool](https://walkon.com/) were the biggest spenders in European football this past summer transfer window, especially when it comes to loading up on the attack. Not only did they sign Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitke as young superstars from the Bundesliga, but they also spent even bigger on established Premier League striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
Although Wirtz hasn’t been half as bad as rival fanbases would have you think, so far only Ekitike has paid early dividends for the Reds, and Liverpool fans do want their club to cool down on the spending.
So it may not come as much of a disappointment to Kopites to hear Fabrizio Romano report that Liverpool are highly unlikely to sign Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window.
Now, that says nothing of the possibility of Semenyo switching allegiances in the summer transfer window next year, as it is much more likely for the Cherries to sell him then rather than in the middle of the season, especially when they actually have an outside shot at Champions League football.
Liverpool did sell Luis Diaz and failed to replace him, though Cody Gakpo and even Wirtz can play on the left wing. Semenyo is worth keeping in mind for next year, as he is a legitimate Premier League Player of the Season candidate who stepped up his game from star to superstar in the 2025/26 season.
