Newcastle United is in line to potentially host England's round of 16 clash at EURO 2028 as the full match list for the tournament was revealed.
England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland have been chosen as the host nations of the 2028 tournament, with St James' Park chosen among the nine host stadiums for the competition.
All four host nations will have to qualify for the European Championships through the normal qualifying route, although UEFA have reserved two spots for the best-ranked host nations that do not qualify as either group winners or best runners-up.
Should England qualify for the tournament, as expected, then Chronicle Live understands they will be allocated a spot in Group B as team 'B1' on the match list. That means they will begin their EURO 2028 campaign at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium before having a further two games at Wembley Stadium.
Should they win Group B, then St James' Park will host the Three Lions' last 16 game against a best third placed side from groups A, D, E or F.
Thomas Tuchel has selected a number of Newcastle players in his recent squads, including Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon, Nick Pope and Tino Livramento. Lewis Miley and Lewis Hall, meanwhile, are in the Under-21s squad this international fortnight. Gordon and Pope had to pull out of Tuchel's plans due to injury.
In total, St James' will host five games at the Euros that will mean more than 250,000 tickets will be on sale for matches at the stadium. After games from four different groups, the ground - one of six selected in England - will also have the last-16 match.
St James' Park last hosted an England game in June 2024, as goals from Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Kane secured a 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in a warm-up friendly game ahead of EURO 2024.
Speaking after Newcastle were confirmed as part of the EURO 2028 bid, former Leader of Newcastle City Council, Cllr Nick Kemp, said: "We are delighted Newcastle will be a host city for the men’s UEFA EURO 2028 football tournament after the UK and Ireland’s bid was successful.
"Newcastle is a great sporting city that is known around the world for its passion for sport. The tournament will be another fantastic opportunity to showcase our great city to a global audience and it’s expected to deliver a £98m boost to the local economy.
"We have an excellent track record of hosting national and international events such as the World Transplant Games, the Rugby League World Cup and the Great North Run.
"We can’t wait to play our part in delivering a successful UEFA EURO 2028 and helping to create a tournament that lives long in the memory of football fans."
The semi-finals and final will be played at Wembley Stadium, as well as one quarter-final, with Glasgow's Hampden park, Dublin's Aviva Stadium and Cardiff's Millennium Stadium also being awarded quarter-final ties.
