Dan Snyder’s former Maryland mansion to be auctioned off for charity

Dan Snyder’s former home in Potomac, Maryland, is hitting the market again. The 25,000-square-foot mansion will be auctioned off in December to support the American Cancer Society.

Snyder, the former owner of the NFL’s Washington Commanders, bought the property from Jordanian royalty a year after purchasing the District’s football team.

The price of the estate has steadily dropped since it hit the market in 2023, when Mr. Snyder sold the Commanders to a group led by Josh Harris. Mr. Snyder donated the home to the American Cancer Society, which listed it for sale for $49 million. The price fell to $24.9 million this past summer.

Concierge Auctions, which is selling the property to the highest bidder in December, expects the bidding to open at $7.5 million to $11 million.

The property sits on 15 acres, with a design inspired by French chateaus. Mr. Snyder purchased the land in 2000 and built the home in 2004.

The home, called The Estate at River’s Edge for its waterfront views of the Potomac River, also features a three-story guesthouse and 11 garage bays.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the American Cancer Society’s research, advocacy and support initiatives. The auction house plans to make a donation — 0.5% of the final sale price — to the charity.

“The charitable component is certainly additional motivation for buyers who are not just heightened to the opportunity that this property and auction presents, but also by its impact, knowing their purchase will also support a national organization as meaningful as the American Cancer Society and its mission,” Chad Roffers, the CEO and co-founder of Concierge Auctions, told the Robb Report website.

Mr. Snyder and his wife, Tanya, vacated the D.C. region after selling the Commanders to Mr. Harris for $6.05 billion in 2023. The couple has listed England as home in recent filings.
