Former Pittsburgh Steelers CB Beanie Bishop Jr. is looking for his next NFL home. One week after being released by the Steelers, Bishop had a tryout with the Houston Texans, per the NFL’s transaction sheet.
As of this writing, he has not signed with the team. Still, it’s proof he is on the NFL’s radar after being released by the Steelers.

Bishop signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2024. He began the season as Pittsburgh’s starting slot corner before losing his spot to veteran Cam Sutton after Sutton’s suspension related to domestic violence. Bishop finished the season with four interceptions, second-most by a Steelers’ UDFA rookie in team history. Only Hall of Famer Jack Butler had more. Two of those came off current Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a primetime win over the New York Jets.
In addition to those interceptions, Bishop also notched 45 tackles, seven pass breakups, and and fumble recovery.
Bishop failed to make the team’s 53-man 2025 roster out of camp. Moved down the depth chart after Jalen Ramsey and Brandin Echols were acquired, Bishop began the year on the practice squad. Pittsburgh never elevated him to the roster and cut him last week in favor of cornerback Daequan Hardy.
During last Tuesday’s press conference, Mike Tomlin declined to provide an explanation.
“I’m not getting into practice squad decisions,” Tomlin told reporters at the time. “That’s just too far down the totem pole. I’m more interested in what we need to do this week and the guys that are on the 53 we’re preparing to play.”
The Steelers have turned over large chunks of its secondary from a season ago. Of those on the 53-man roster, only Joey Porter Jr., James Pierre returned from last season. Safeties DeShon Elliott and Miles Killebrew are on injured reserve as is cornerback Cory Trice Jr.
Now, Bishop will look for his next NFL stop. It won’t be Houston, at least, not for now.
