Browns great Bernie Kosar asking for prayers while enduring ‘aggressive procedures’

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns legend Bernie Kosar is asking for prayers after under “two aggressive procedures” to stop internal bleeding as he awaits a liver transplant that has been delayed.

He took to X to tell fans he was set to get a liver transplant this past weekend, until it was held off due to the donor organ being infected.

Kosar then underwent the two procedures and was set for a third procedure, he said.

“I could really use your love, support and actual prayers today,” Kosar said from his hospital bed.

Back in July of 2024, Kosar had previously announced in a Cleveland Magazine story that he had been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson’s disease.

Kosar spent nine seasons with the Browns, who selected him with their first selection in the 1985 supplemental draft.

During his time in Cleveland, Kosar earned one Pro Bowl nod, led the Browns to four playoff appearances and three AFC Championship berths, where they lost each time to the Denver Broncos.

In franchise history, Kosar ranks third all-time in passing yards (21,904), fourth in passing touchdowns (116), and third in games played by a quarterback (108).

Prior to his NFL career, the Youngstown native played for Boardman High School. Kosar then became an All-American during his college tenure at Miami (FL), where he and the Hurricanes won the 1983 national championship.
