The Kansas City Chiefs have brought a familiar face back to the practice squad. After being released for a spell, the team has brought back wide receiver Jimmy Holiday as the team makes roster moves following its bye week.
Holiday was previously released by the Chiefs to make room for defensive end Malik Herring on the practice squad. The Chiefs had to release Herring from the active roster following the signing of defensive tackle Mike Pennel.
Gone for only one week, Holiday was always a good bet to potentially return in some capacity—or at least to remain in orbit of the Chiefs—because the front office (and/or coaching staff) was clearly enamored with his potential.
The Chiefs found a way to keep Jimmy Holiday in the fold by re-signing him to the practice squad.

Holiday went unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft after finishing his collegiate career at Louisiana Tech. The Chiefs and New York Giants invited him to rookie tryouts, but Kansas City had its minicamp scheduled first, and they struck a deal with Holiday to bring him onto the 90-man offseason roster.
From there, Holiday did well to not only earn a deal but to last all the way through training camp given his status as the lowest in the pecking order on the depth chart at wide receiver. The Chiefs released him when active rosters were due but brought him back onto the practice squad. That's where he remained through the first half of the season.
While he was away, [Holiday earned a look from the Buffalo Bills](https://x.com/agetzenberg/status/1988367259556081950) as a free-agent tryout along with other faces familiar to Chiefs Kingdom. Wideout Mecole Hardman also tried out for the Bills, as did defensive tackle Demone Harris—both former Chiefs for multiple seasons. The Bills also looked at wide receiver Jalen Virgil before [deciding to sign Hardman](https://arrowheadaddict.com/tyreek-hill-just-said-what-every-chiefs-fan-is-thinking-about-mecole-hardman-01k9t8aphxr0).
Holiday is the only other receiver on the practice squad other than Jason Brownlee, which bodes well for his potential to stick long-term with the team into next offseason. It shouldn't surprise anyone if the Chiefs offer Holiday a futures deal sometime this winter in the hopes of seeing what he can do with another year of learning on and off the field under his belt.
