“We’re going to honor Marshawn, his family, a number of different ways,” Brian Schottenheimer told reporters a week after the 24-year-old defensive end’s death. “The organization has been amazing. We’ve started the Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund, where we can all give and support Catalina.”
The fund will cover living expenses and other needs for Catalina and the baby. Team officials described the effort as an immediate step to ensure the family has resources and privacy while they grieve.
The Cowboys staff notified Catalina about the plan before making it public. The team emphasized that privacy and respectful handling of the situation are priorities as she prepares for motherhood.
Kneeland’s death occurred recently and shocked teammates and coaches. He had joined the Cowboys earlier in the season and had begun participating in team activities before the unexpected event.
Schottenheimer and team leaders stressed a commitment to long-term support. The organization plans to coordinate contributions from staff, players, and possibly other club resources to sustain assistance.
The Cowboys have asked media outlets and fans to respect Catalina’s privacy during this period. Team representatives noted that protecting her from public pressure is part of the support plan.
Kneeland’s teammates responded privately, offering condolences and practical aid. Several players visited family members and organizers to ensure immediate needs were met and that the fund’s setup proceeded quickly.
Catalina Mancera Speaks Out After Boyfriend Marshawn Kneeland’s Tragic Death
Marshawn Kneeland’s girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, has spoken publicly on both social media and in aninterview with The Daily Mail.
On November 10, she posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, and on November 11, she gave a brief statement to the press as she was leaving her apartment.
Catalina did not want to guess what made the rookie football star take his own life just hours after scoring his first touchdown in front of millions. She told the Daily Mail, “It’s too much.”
Mancera shared a post on Facebook that included a photo with her late boyfriend and a heartfelt message expressing her grief.
“my sweet baby, words could never express how broken I feel, you’re my everything,” she wrote. “I’ll love you forever my beautiful angel.”
It was Mancera who alerted police that Kneeland was armed and might hurt himself after he refused to stop for a traffic violation in Frisco, Texas.
In police audio from the night, a dispatcher said, “We’re talking to the girlfriend… she’s saying he’s armed and has a history of mental illness and her quote was ‘he will end it all’.” The chase began around 10:30 p.m. on November 5.
The Cowboys defensive end, who had just celebrated a touchdown from a blocked punt against the Arizona Cardinals, reportedly sent a group text to his family saying “goodbye” during the incident.
