Didier Deschamps defends Real Madrid midfielder after latest setback – ‘If he didn’t have these …

Eduardo Camavinga was training away from the group on international duty ahead of France’s game against Ukraine later this week.

However, there was optimism that it was just a niggle and that he would be back in time.

Late yesterday, however, word broke out that Camavinga was still facing pain in his hamstring and that his participation against Ukraine, thus, was under serious doubt.

Needless to say, the development is worrying for Real Madrid who have just seen the youngster recover from a series of long-term injuries.

What did Deschamps say?

French national team coach Didier Deschamps interacted with the media recently via BeIN Sports USA, and he had an important comment to make about Camavinga and his injury record.

“Eduardo Camavinga has injuries that prevent him from having consistency,” he began, explaining how the player was suffering with his fitness.

Speaking on how injuries were the single biggest factor holding him back from playing a regular role for club and country, Deschamps said,

“He wants more game time, to improve. If he didn’t have these problems, he would definitely have more consistency with Real Madrid and with us.”

As it stands, Camavinga’s participation in France’s upcoming game appears ruled out but one is forced to wonder why the player has not been sent back to Madrid if he is indeed so seriously in discomfort.

There is still hope

The French national team’s decision to keep him around and allow him to train separately indicates that there is a feeling he will be ready for the team’s second game.

That could be seen by Real Madrid as an indirect indicator that the pain is nothing serious.

From Xabi Alonso’s perspective, Camavinga being sidelined is fantastic news and it ensures the player gets the rest he needs and does not play unnecessary minutes.

All that matters for Real Madrid, after all, is that the player is fit and ready to start by the time the international break for Camavinga will have to step up and continue filling in for Aurelien Tchouameni as Los Blancos embark on some vital away clashes.
