Early team injury news ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Nottingham Forest after the international break
The final international break of 2025 comes at a welcome time for Liverpool, as the Reds look to bounce back from their most recent defeat at the hands of Manchester City and retain any remnants of a title defence over the winter period.
The Reds will hope to have multiple key players back in action for the visit of Nottingham Forest, who may have some major injury boosts of their own as the Tricky Trees aim for back-to-back wins to jump out of the bottom three.
Liverpool injury news before international break and Nottingham Forest clash
Alexander Isak - Doubt: The Reds’ £125million signing has yet to make a significant impact since his record-breaking move but will hope to do just that against Forest. He was named on the bench at the Etihad but was not brought on by Slot, while he has been selected by Sweden boss Graham Potter for the international break.
“Alexander is here. I’ve spoken briefly with him. He’s feeling well, has no issues,” Potter told Fotbollskanalen. As of the present moment, it is looking encouraging for Isak to make a return against Forest - but after his recent fitness record since signing for Liverpool, there are no guarantees.
Alisson Becker - Available: One man who is certainly expected to be available after the international break is Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. While Giorgi Mamardashvili has performed admirably in his absence, Alisson is Liverpool’s undisputed No.1 and his return will certainly be a boost. The last time he featured was at Galatasaray on September 30, and the Reds have gone on to lose five times in his absence.
Slot said on Friday: “Alisson for sure [will be back] after the international break... we expect this.”
Jeremie Frimpong - Out: This match is expected to come too soon for Jeremie Frimpong, though, as the Dutchman remains out with a hamstring injury.
“I expect Jeremie back after the international break as well because we play from November to March,” said Slot. “But I don’t expect Jeremie to be fully fit [to face Nottingham] Forest.”
Geovanni Leoni - Out: The 18-year-old sustained an unfortunate ACL injury on his Liverpool debut and looks set to be out for the season. Fellow youngsters Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns also remain out with respective hamstring issues.
Nottingham Forest early injury updates ahead of Liverpool
Forest are anticipating the returns of two key players to face Liverpool, with Chris Wood and Callum Hudson-Odoi both hoped to be fit enough to feature at Anfield on November 22, though both remain doubts for the match at present.
Sean Dyche said last week of both players: "Maybe after the Leeds game there's a stronger chance."
Meanwhile, summer signing Douglas Luiz is out after suffering a believed recent hamstring injury, which is “not likely to be a quick situation” according to Dyche. The same applies to Ola Aina, who also remains out with a hamstring injury, and reserve goalkeeper Angus Gunn (knee) will also not feature.
The possible fitness of Oleksandr Zinchenko for the fixture is currently a doubt, after the former Arsenal man picked up a groin injury on October 23. The Forest boss said the following week that his return would be “a bit longer than we thought”. An update on winger Dilane Bakwa is also currently unknown, as is the nature of his injury which has kept him out for the last six matches. Both players will aim to return to contention at Anfield.
