Newcastle United consider terminating loan – Bring player back in January

Last summer, Newcastle United signed Antonio Cordero on a free transfer and sent him on loan to KVC Westerlo. The Magpies had confirmed their plan to send the winger out on loan when they announced his signing in June.

The 18-year-old left Málaga CF in favour of Newcastle United. His decision left the Spanish side frustrated.

Back in August, AS reported Cordero’s camp were hoping that Newcastle United would send him on loan to a club in UEFA competition. That didn’t happen and he ended up at Westerlo.

The Spain U19 international’s move hasn’t worked so far and journalist Matteo Moretto analyses his situation for Radio Marca.

Cordero has been limited to 98 minutes from seven matches for the Belgian club. He’s yet to start for Westerlo and has played three minutes since the end of October.

Eddie Howe’s side naturally aren’t pleased with the youngster’s situation at the Jupiler Pro League side. Moretto claims Newcastle United would be forced to react in January.

“He’s not getting much playing time, and the English club is considering terminating the loan,” he said.

If Cordero returns to St James’ Park, it’s unlikely Howe will include him in his plans. The Tyneside club could send him on loan again in January.
