“I love the big 5 leagues” – West Ham target sounds like he’d be up for Hammers

Niclas Füllkrug’s agent said earlier this month his client could leave West Ham United in the winter market.

Füllkrug is said to have interest from a few German and Italian clubs. West Ham are also being linked to a few strikers, including AS Saint-Étienne’s Lucas Stassin.

Last week, Jeunes Footeux in France reported West Ham want to sign the 20-year-old in January. They also said the Ligue 2 side want in excess of €30m to consider a sale.

Thursday’s edition of Gazet van Antwerpen has an interview with Stassin.

He’s still waiting to make his senior debut for Belgium. The player says it’s disappointing to not receive a call up from the national team. The Belgian had a difficult summer after Saint-Étienne’s relegation from the top flight. He wasn’t able to leave because of the high price set by the French club.

The West Ham target says there could be more clarity on his future in the coming weeks.

“That depends on what happens with Saint-Étienne. If we get promoted, I’ll be playing in Ligue 1 again. If not, we’ll see. It plays a role, but in football, everything can change quickly. At the moment, I’m just a Saint-Étienne player,” he said.

“Do I have to leave? No, definitely not. But it will depend on what happens in the coming weeks.”

GVA relay claims from France of West Ham’s interest. They add it’s just rumours for now. The player, for his part, isn’t closing the exit door.

“I love the big five leagues. If I ever get the chance to explore a new league, I’m open to it,” Stassin explained.

“But the most important thing is to play at the highest level again as soon as possible. That’s what every footballer wants.”
