We asked Newcastle United fans, success or failure if win Carabao Cup but outside PL top 6

Opinion

The question we were asking NUFC fans on Wednesday was – Newcastle United win the Carabao Cup but finish outside the Premier League top six, is it success or failure?

We are now three months into the 2025/26 season and very mixed results.

In the Premier League it is played 11, won 3, drawn 3, lost 5.

However, it has been smooth passage through to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for a fourth season in a row, the last round seeing Spurs defeated to take Newcastle United into a last eight home tie with Fulham.

We also have of course the welcome distraction of the Champions League, [Eddie Howe](https://www.themag.co.uk/2025/11/this-was-when-the-seeds-were-first-sown-that-have-led-to-current-problems-at-newcastle-united/) and his team picking up three wins in four games so far, putting themselves into a great position to reach the last 16 knockout stages.

However, we just wanted to concentrate here on the domestic side of things.

As [Newcastle United fans](https://www.themag.co.uk/2025/11/catch-22-for-newcastle-united-and-the-champions-league/) how would you feel if NUFC won the Carabao Cup for a second season in a row BUT finished outside the Premier League top six?

Would that represent a successful season, or a failure?

**The final results are now in:**

70% Success

30% Failure
