Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium lit up for the announcement it will stage five matches at the 2028 European Championships
Hill Dickinson Stadium was lit up with a new look on Wednesday night as it was announced that Everton’s new home on the Mersey waterfront will host five games at the 2028 European Championships.
The 52,769 capacity venue, where the Blues have played since August after relocating from Goodison Park, their home for the previous 133 years, is to be known as ‘ Stadium’ for the duration of the tournament due to a ban on sponsors’ names and will host a last-16 knockout clash as well as four group matches. The group games will take place on Sunday, June 11, 2028 (Group D team 3 v Group D team 4); Wednesday, June 14, 2028 (Group A team 2 v Group A team 4); Saturday, June 17, 2028 (Group E team 2 v Group E team 4) and Tuesday, June 20, 2028 (Group C team 2 v Group C team 3) while the last-16 fixture will be on Saturday, June 24, 2028.
and if England qualify then they will be placed in Group B and play their first game at Manchester City and then their next two matches at Wembley. Everton Stadium’s round-of-16 match will feature the runners-up in Group A against the runners-up in Group B, so, if the Three Lions were to finish second in their group, then they would play their next fixture at the Blues’ home.

To mark the announcement – at 20:28 on Wednesday – was lit up, displaying its host stadium logo while Liverpool’s host city logo was emblazoned on historic landmarks such as the Cunard Building and the Royal plus across screens throughout the city.
