Harvey Elliott's loan from Liverpool to Aston Villa has not gone as the 22-year-old would have wanted

Harvey Elliott looks set to see out the season at Aston Villa - and could still sign permanently next summer.
The Athletic are reporting there is no break clause in the deadline day deal that saw him move from Anfield to Villa Park.
Elliott is on loan at Villa for the whole of the 2025/26 campaign, with the agreement Villa are obliged to buy him once he has made ten appearances.
He has already made five - but only two starts and has not even been in the match day squad for the last two Premier League games for which he has been eligible.
There have been reports that he is not happy at the situation, with Unai Emery known to be exacting in what he wants from new players and how they fit into his system.
However, all the signs are Elliott will remain at Villa Park and not go back to the Reds in January.
Meanwhile football finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Villa are 'almost certain' to end up triggering the clause but added delaying those games 'allows them to move it in the financial year'.
The Athletic add that neither Villa nor Liverpool have indicated that they want to cancel the deal, although they did suggest Liverpool see the fee as £35million, while Villa regard it as closer to £30m.
What is clear is that Elliott can't go back to Liverpool and be loaned out to another team since having already played for both Liverpool and Villa he can't appear for a third club in the same season.
Unai Emery has previously explained Elliott's omission, saying: "Harvey is a 10 number in our structure, in our shape, and he plays some matches and there is still adaptation to add himself individually in our structure, the task we have.
"Of course, he is training well, and his commitment is being very well as well, but his performance was not enough (up to this point).
"At the same time, we have other players who can play as a 10 and they are performing well, and I have different players."
