Selling Ward-Prowse could be costly for West Ham United

**West Ham United are prepared to sell outcast James Ward-Prowse according to [ExWHUEmployee](https://www.thewesthamway.com/2025/11/13/prepared-exwhuemployee-hammers-midfielder-in-line-for-january-exit/), but it could limit our January spending.**

It comes to no surprise that James Ward-Prowse will be allowed to leave the club this winter, for unknown reasons, the former Southampton captain has been completely frozen out by Nuno Espirito Santo since he arrived.

Ex says “There has been no fallout between the pair. Nuno wants pace and energy in his midfield and Ward-Prowse just doesn’t fit that profile. Which means he is highly likely at this stage to leave in the new year.”

However, the fact he opted to play Andy Irving and Tomas Soucek in midfield who are just as slow as JWP suggests there may be some bad blood between the pair, continued from the 29-year-old’s short loan spell with the Portuguese gaffer at Nottingham Forest last season.

But anyway, whatever the reasons for it, Ward-Prowse is no longer in the clubs plans and we are willing to sell him in January. We aren’t going to be able to get much money for him, that’s if we can even sell him, we might only be able to loan him out.

But if we do sell him, I can’t see anyone paying double figures for what in reality is a set-piece merchant that is no longer good at set-pieces. I can see us moving him on for £5-£8m to get his wages off the books.

In terms of potential suitors, Ex said: “His former club Southampton where he was captain are prepared to take him back. We also understand that David Moyes has shown interest in possibly taking him up to Everton.”

JWP was excellent for West Ham under Moyes, almost every single one of his corners were pinpoint and his deficiencies in open play were not highlighted due to his compact midfield. He could be a great partner for defensive monster Idrissa Gueye in the heart of midfield for the toffees.

Our former manager is our best hope of getting a decent amount of money for the England international, so lets hope Everton come in for the midfielder. But still, the best case scenario will still be a £30m loss on the player. Yet again, awful business and planning from West Ham  in the transfer window.

This loss means it will impact PSR, its quite a confusing system, but say selling a player for a loss of say £10m is practically the same as spending £10m on a player. So, if we sell JWP it could prevent us from buying a player, and he has to be replaced, and we also have to sign a striker and a central defender.

Ex also said Guido Rodriguez could also be sold, which would be a positive for PSR as it would be pure profit after we signed him on a  fee transfer, but realistically, we’re only going to get a couple of million for the Argentinian, so it really won’t make much difference.

While it has its disadvantages in terms of bringing other players in, I fully support the decision of selling James Ward-Prowse, we simply cannot have a player earning over 100k-a-week rotting in the reserves, we need to do everything we can to squeeze the most money possible out of the sale of JWP.
