Barcelona forward Raphinha has shared his optimism about the future, saying he still believes he can one day lift the Ballon d’Or, despite missing out on the prestigious award this year.
The Brazilian winger, who finished fifth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, has previously admitted that the result left him somewhat disappointed, especially given the season he had.
Still, Raphinha’s attitude remains upbeat and determined, as he continues to chase greater individual and collective success.
Raphinha deserved better
The 2024–25 campaign was, without doubt, the best of Raphinha’s career so far.
Playing a central role in Barcelona’s domestic treble and helping the team reach the Champions League semi-finals, he amassed an extraordinary 34 goals and 25 assists in 57 appearances across all competitions.
As such, many were surprised to see the Barcelona star finish outside the top three in the Ballon d’Or voting.
Even Neymar, one of Brazil’s greatest modern players, expressed that Raphinha deserved a higher place in the rankings, citing his influence at both club and international level.

Now, in an interview with GQ (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Raphinha reflected on his Ballon d’Or journey and the lessons he has drawn from it.
He said, “I think I will have the chance to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.”
The Brazilian went on to add, “Football is full of cycles. I believe I still have many years ahead to reach new goals.”
Rather than feeling frustrated, Raphinha is using the experience as a source of energy and motivation.
“I see 5th place as motivation, not pressure. I know my potential.”
Finally, he showed his humility and gratitude, saying, “The Ballon d’Or is an individual award, but football is a team sport.
“When I look at everything I achieved with Barça and Brazil, I realise how much I have to be thankful for instead of disappointed… truly grateful.
“That motivates me to keep going,” he concluded.
