Liverpool may be heading for another contract saga after worrying Dominik Szoboszlai revelation - opinion

Dominik Szoboszlai has been one of the only Liverpool players who have performed well this season.

The attacking midfielder has often single-handedly earned Liverpool points and, when he isn’t used in the centre of the park by Arne Slot, you can tell the difference it makes.

Although he did play well when used at right-back, his keen eye for goal and his ability to make something out of nothing are what make him a key cog in Liverpool’s first-team squad.

His contract runs until 2028, but given his recent form, Liverpool have already opened talks to extend Szoboszlai’s stay.

But, since no agreement has yet been reached, rumours of a potential exit are now starting to emerge.

Real Madrid and Manchester City are interested in signing Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai

A fresh report from Spanish outlet AS has outlined that Liverpool are becoming ‘increasingly concerned’ about Szoboszlai’s contract with Real Madrid and Manchester City now ‘closely following’ the situation.

At the moment, the Hungarian is only on around £114,000-per-week with other top-level number 10s on considerably more.

AS share that this is one of the main reasons Liverpool are concerned about his ‘long-term future’ at Anfield.

Despite their concerns, Liverpool are still ‘interested’ in extending his contract and will look to increase his salary should he choose to stay with the club.

Liverpool may want to offer him an extension, but if they can’t come to an agreement with the former RB Leipzig ace, clubs may try to take him away from L4.

Liverpool must do everything they can to keep Dominik Szoboszlai at Anfield

As mentioned, Szoboszlai has quickly become one of Liverpool’s most important players.

The midfielder has really come into his own this season, and even though most of their first-team squad have let them down, the Hungarian has kept things consistent throughout the entire campaign.

There’s still plenty of time for a new deal to be worked out, but with clubs such as City and Real keeping a close eye on developments, there will be some added pressure to the situation.

Szoboszlai certainly deserves a pay increase, but since clubs such as Real and Man City seem to have never-ending pockets, a deal could be much harder to agree than first thought.

If Slot somehow manages to lose Szoboszlai in the future, it’ll be a massive fall from grace and set the Anfield outfit back massively.
