Newcastle United will host five fixtures during Euro 2028, but will England get the chance to play in St. James’ Park?
It’s still more than two-and-a-half years away but Euro 2028 was officially launched in London on Wednesday night, with the locations of exact games being confirmed.
Newcastle has been selected as a host city and now know which five fixtures will be held at St. James’ Park.
The prestigious 24-team international tournament will get underway at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on June 9, 2028, with Wales kicking things off should they qualify.
However, two automatic spots have been held in reserve if any of the host nations fail to qualify and none of the four will be placed in the same qualifying group. If more than two of them fail to qualify, then the two places will be decided based on qualification ranking.
England, meanwhile, should they make it to the finals, will kick their campaign off at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.
Most of their other games will be held at the Three Lions’ den of Wembley, but there is a chance they could play at the home of Newcastle United.

Wembley is then hosting one quarter-final as well as the semis and final on July 9 but, before that, the round of 16 will utilise every host stadium except Wembley.
As a result, should England finish top of Group B, then their last 16 tie against a third-placed team from one of Group A, D, E or F will take place at St. James’ Park.
Should the Three Lions finish second, however, Newcastle will miss its chance and England will instead play against the runner-up of Group A at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, in Liverpool.
What games St. James’ Park will host at Euro 2028?
As well as hosting a last 16 tie, St. James’ Park will also host four group stage fixtures.

15 June: Group C match between C2 and C4
17 June: Group F match between F2 and F4
