West Ham ‘unconvinced’ by Championship striker options

David Sullivan is said to be ‘unconvinced’ with the recent striker’s that the Hammers have been linked to.

In the past couple of days, a series of strikers have been linked with West Ham with the most recent being USA duo Coventry’s Haji Wright and Norwich’s Josh Sargent.

The Coventry Talisman has unexpectedly been poised for a Premier League move after he’s bolstered Coventry into being the Championship leaders and putting them in prime position to secure automatic promotion.

The forward has secured 8 goals in just 14 games, but considering the nature of their position at the moment, striking a deal in January would be very difficult.

He’s certainly become a crucial player for Coventry across the past couple of years, scoring 28G & achieving 9A within the past two seasons (73 matches).

However, despite his record, it’s difficult to see how the forward would work at West Ham seeing as he struggles to play alone up top and isn’t too good at winning aerial battles, both of which we require in the style of play we under Nuno.

Regarding the other target in Josh Sargent, his first season saw him make 26 appearances, and scoring just two goals.

He’s since stayed at Norwich whilst in the Championship, and now across all 4 of his campaigns, he’s totalled 120 appearances and 61 goal contributions [50G/11A] which is remarkably impressive.

Despite his impressive statistics, it would be a dire decision to sign the American. He’s already been given a chance in the Premier League and not only were his stats poor, but his overall performances were simply not good enough, hence the reason no one cherry-picked the forward once they went down.

He did nearly recently move to Wolfsburg in the summer, but the pair couldn’t agree on Norwich’s stubborn price of £20 million, and The Canaries don’t seem to be budging as they’ve also quoted the same for West Ham if we wanted to sign him in January which Sullivan doesn’t like the sound of… and honestly, I don’t like the sound of it too!

If we’re looking for a change of fortunes, Josh Sargent isn’t going to be that fortune hiding, he simply appears as someone who’s destined to fail at a Premier League level because the gap between the top and the Championship is significant.

Haji Wright looks like your a top Championship striker but his player profile doesn’t suit what we need, the feeling are also conveyed for Josh Sargent, despite his record, the price tag of £20 million is comical and certainly not someone who we could trust to have upfront for the Premier League.

Sullivan has voted to go back to the drawing board and I have to say that I agree!
