Di Maria was one of the most notable transfers in modern history when he joined Man United in 2014 for just under £60m, which was a British record at the time.
However, things never really worked out despite the hype, proving how no matter the quality, sometimes it is too hard to adapt, and Liverpool could have a player who could fall into this trap.

Florian Wirtz could be the new Angel Di Maria
Just like Di Maria, Florian Wirtz has arrived for a British transfer record, or at least it was until Alexander Isak broke it not long after, and has also struggled to adapt.
The former Man United player was also often told that he was too lightweight for the league and that his style would not work, something Wirtz has also been warned about.
After just one season, Di Maria still had a clear exit route and took it, this being PSG, where he went on to have a very fruitful career.

Wirtz, again, also has a clear way out if he needs it, this being Bayern Munich, with the German side already desperate to sign him in the summer.

Of course, it is just a coincidence that so many similarities can be pulled between the two of them, but could there genuinely be a chance that Wirtz also leaves after just one season like Di Maria did at Man United?
Liverpool will not allow this to happen
Liverpool are very smart operators in the transfer market and although they would have loved Wirtz to hit the ground running, they would have planned for this.
No club spends over £100m on a player just to write them off after one season and send them elsewhere, especially not a team like Liverpool.
So, the Reds will stick by their number seven and do all they can to help him kick on, especially as he has far too much talent not to.
Wirtz will come good and when it clicks, it will click, just like it did for Di Maria at PSG, but this time, Wirtz will not have to move clubs just for it to work out.
