If Leeds United are looking for more firepower, they might be about to turn their attention to the Saudi Pro League, where an England international is considering his future.

Ivan Tony made the switch to the Middle East in August 2024, after enjoying four seasons at Brentford, earning himself a call-up with the Three Lions as a result. His final season was marred by a lengthy suspension for breaching betting rules, however.

Al-Ahli paid a reported £40m for the 29-year-old and they got an instant return as Toney plundered 30 goals in 44 appearances in his first season, helping his new club to win the AFC Champions League Elite for the first time.

The current campaign has started in a similar vein, with the burly striker finding the net 11 times in 15 appearances across all competitions, but now he has hinted that his future may lie elsewhere.

According to Sky Sports, Toney is believed to be weighing up a return to the Premier League. The report claims that several top-flight clubs have already looked into the feasibility of a deal in January.

Tottenham and Everton have both been linked with a possible move for the Northampton-born star, but talkSPORT's Chief Football Correspondent Alex Crook has also suggested Leeds as a possible suitor.

Speaking on air about the situation with Toney, Crook said: "Everton, West Ham are another team in dire need of a No.9. Thomas Frank would love Ivan Toney at Tottenham. Leeds, you mentioned as well, half of the Premier League would love to take Ivan Toney.”

Toney's decision to move to the Saudi Pro League raised eyebrows at the time, and what he has gained in financial riches has been somewhat offset by limited opportunities with the England set-up.

Explaining his decision to move to Al-Ahli, in December 2024 he said: "I came here and the training ground was good, the stadium was nice and the quality in the team was good also. People look at this league differently, but I stepped into it knowing it's still a high standard.

"I wanted something a bit different. It's a different culture, but I can blend in anywhere. I've been at Peterborough, Brentford, now out of the UK. I'm excited to be on this journey. I believe it's the right move at this stage of my career."

Tony has one cap for the Three Lions this year, but with a World Cup on the horizon and a lack of viable back-up strikers for talisman Harry Kane, a return to the Premier League could help secure a seat on the flight across the Atlantic next summer.

Leeds are in desperate need of more firepower, having found the net just 10 times in 11 Premier League matches so far this season. Summer signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin has only one goal to his name since moving the Elland Road.
