Aston Villa player on “boring but important” steps to stop being injury liability

Matty Cash missed Aston Villa’s Europa League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv as Unai Emery left him on the bench.

That has been the only fixture the Poland international hasn’t started for Aston Villa in all competitions this season.

WP SportoweFakty have spoken to the right-back to discuss his form for Aston Villa this season.

Cash was asked whether he’s made changes to stop repeat injuries.

The 28-year-old arrived at Villa Park from Nottingham Forest in September 2020. He has struggled with fitness concerns until the end of last season.

Cash has missed over 220 days due to different muscle injuries since joining Aston Villa, but last suffered a setback in February. According to the fullback, this vast improvement is the result of his physical training.

“I think the latter [lack of injuries] is what allowed me to maintain consistency and consistency in my playing,” he said.

“Unfortunately, injuries held me back. I added a few elements to my individual physical training to eliminate muscle problems and rule out minor injuries. This worked, and I was able to reach a higher level.”

The Polish outlet were curious to find out how he’s managed to overcome muscle related problems. The Aston Villa player talked about minor tweaks, without going into details.

“Until now, I’d been doing everything I needed to off the pitch, but I changed a few minor things, adding a few boring but important stabilisation exercises. And it worked. I feel really comfortable in my body,” Cash explained.

Last month, he signed a contract lasting until 2029. Cash said he had offers to leave last summer but decided to continue at Aston Villa. He explained reasons for snubbing those offers.
