Leeds United fans will be in hysterics at how Sheffield United announced Patrick Bamford (opinion)

Patrick Bamford has now found a new club after leaving Leeds in August.

Sheffield United have handed the man born in Grantham a contract until January as Chris Wilder aims to drag the Blades away from 22nd in the Championship, despite engaging in plenty of beef with the striker and Leeds in recent years amid tense promotion battles.

With that beef in mind, Leeds fans will surely be amused by how Sheffield United announced the signing of Patrick Bamford.

The Championship strugglers began their announcement with this line, making the 32-year-old seem far more effective than he currently is having failed to score in 17 league games last season.

United have added extra firepower to the forward ranks after securing a deal to sign an England international striker.

Leeds fans will surely take some delight in reading that line, sitting pretty in the Premier League as Wilder desperately attempts to keep Sheffield United out of League One.

Furthermore, Bamford won that solitary England cap thanks to his stunning form with Leeds in the 2020/21 campaign, debuting in a 4-0 win over Andorra back in September 2021 after scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists in 38 Premier League appearances under Marcelo Bielsa that term.

The mere fact Sheffield United are now using that accomplishment from his time at Elland Road to dress up this signing into something more than it is will be sure to leave a smirk on the face of Leeds fans.

Why did Patrick Bamford leave Leeds United?

Bamford – who trained with Coventry recently – departed Leeds in August 12 months ahead of his contract expiring.

It came after Daniel Farke told the England international he would not feature in his plans for this season, and would have to play with the U21 side if he did remain at Elland Road.

A mutual decision was therefore made to terminate his contract early.

Reflecting on his time in Yorkshire, Bamford – who Sheffield United fans do not want – wrote on Instagram: “Right now, with the way it has come to an end and the way things have been handled recently it is all too raw for me to reflect on immediately.

“But in the years to come I will look back at this period of my life with nothing but joy and pride and be super happy with what I have achieved.

“I want to thank all the managers I played under but especially Marcelo Bielsa. I don’t know where the club would be without the foundations he laid.”
