Packers' Safety Gives Thoughts On Matchup Against His Former Team

The Green Bay Packers are preparing for the Week 11 contest when they travel to MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants after dropping back-to-back games to the Carolina Panthers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both games saw the Packers play poorly, with the offense unable to put up many points, scoring just 23 points over the past two games.

Defense, on the other hand, hasn’t had any problem stopping any of their opponents, surrendering only 26 points combined in the last two games.

Usually, when the defense shows up the way the Packers have, the expectation is to win, especially at Lambeau Field, but that has not happened since Oct. 26, when they faced the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Xavier McKinney, a defensive back and former member of the Giants, was asked about the upcoming clash and said Green Bay needs to win this week to get back on track.

“I think it’s a must-win. I think we’ve put ourselves kind of in a sticky situation.” McKinney said, per Matt Schneidman, Packers beat writer for The Athletic. With them third in the NFC North and currently holding the final wild-card spot if the playoffs started now, McKinney’s statement is fair and true.

After Sunday, the next three games are all division matchups, as they will more than likely have huge implications on who will take control of one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL.

There were also some positive things said by McKinney, who still confessed his belief in the team, saying they are still a good team, even with critics questioning their ability to be contenders for a title after the bad performances at home.

McKinney actually spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, where he was drafted in 2020 with the 36th pick in the draft and quickly made a name for himself, picking off nine passes during his time in New York.

This, of course, is what led to the Green Bay Packers signing the young safety to a four-year, $68 million contract in March of 2024, and McKinney did not disappoint, having his breakout season last year with eight interceptions while earning All-Pro honors.
