Wolves goalkeeper José Sá has temporarily left Portugal’s national team camp for personal reason, as explained in the country’s media today. Unfortunately, the reason is the death of his grandfather, [**Jornal de Notícias**](https://www.jn.pt/desporto/artigo/jose-sa-dispensado-da-selecao-por-causa-da-morte-do-avo/18019065) reports.
The 32-year-old travelled home before Thursday’s match in Dublin. However, he is expected to rejoin the squad on Friday to prepare for Sunday’s clash with Armenia.
Braga’s João Carvalho is his replacement. The 21-year-old had been with the U21 national team and was called up to replace José Sá for the trip to Ireland. The young goalkeeper joined the senior group as emergency cover and will remain with the team until the Wolves man returns.
José Sá has been a consistent part of Roberto Martínez’s selections since the manager took charge. His performances for Wolves have made him a regular name on Portugal’s list.
Portuguese media say the absence is only temporary. Sá should resume training within 24 hours. He’ll be available for both Sunday’s qualifier and Wolves’ next Premier League fixture.
