Facts: Real Madrid forward showing visible progress in performance and attitude under Xabi…

Vinicius Jr. continues to be one of the most talked-about figures in football.

Whether it is for his performances, emotional reactions during matches, or interactions with rival fans, the Real Madrid forward always finds himself at the centre of attention.

But beyond the headlines, what often goes unnoticed is the remarkable shift in his maturity and work rate this season.

During the clash against Rayo Vallecano last weekend, Vinicius might not have been at his sharpest when it came to dribbling or finishing, but his effort off the ball was unmatched.

According to AS, he led all Real Madrid outfield players in recoveries with seven, a number bettered only by goalkeeper Courtois (10) and ahead of Carreras (5), who is known for his defensive ability.

More than what meets the eye

The Brazilian’s evolution is also evident in the data. His average recoveries per game this season stand at 2.4, yet last weekend, he doubled that figure, matching his season’s best performance, one he had already achieved against Villarreal.

In the early part of the campaign, he averaged 1.6 recoveries per match, but over the past seven fixtures, that number has soared to 3.4.

Slowly but surely, Alonso is turning Vinicius into the team’s first line of defence, pressing aggressively and defending from the front.

No longer bickers

Even in the heated atmosphere of Vallecas, Vinicius showed restraint and composure.

When a fan shouted “You’re terrible!”, he simply smiled and walked away, responding only with “no, no, no”.

Later, after hearing chants of “Vinicius, beach ball!”, the Brazilian replied calmly, “You pay all year to see me”.

Perhaps the biggest testament to his improved discipline lies in his disciplinary record.

After 12 league matches, he has received just two yellow cards, half as many as he had at this stage last season when he was already one booking away from suspension.
