The Boston Red Sox have to be pleased with the current state of their bullpen — which is why some reports have stated they have no interest in continuing to pour resources into what is already a strength. Other reports have stated the opposite, however. Boston is considering the addition of a high-leverage reliever to create a version of a super bullpen, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal on Thursday. Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock are unlikely to be unseated from their current roles, but the idea would be to add another late-inning option to further strengthen the unit — like Robert Suarez, Pete Fairbanks, Ryan Helsley, Luke Weaver or Raisel Iglesias. Devin Williams is also an option, according to a different report by The Athletic on Wednesday. Story continues below advertisement The Red Sox could look to sign one of those relievers to a three- or four-year deal in an effort to bolster that group while also finding a long-term replacement for Chapman. Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow obviously has a few things that will need to be addressed more expeditiously, admitting to the fact that he could sign two big bats in addition to a frontline starting pitcher.
