'Very crazy': Nick Woltemade looks back on last year that catapulted him to becoming Newcastle…

**Newcastle United's new big man up top, Nick Woltemade, has had quite a year in football, going from playing in the third tier of German football to becoming one of the most feared marksmen in the Bundesliga to playing in the Premier League.**

That's also not to mention the fact that he picked up the Golden Boot at the summer's Under 21 European Championships, guiding Germany to the final where they were once again beaten by England.

Bayern Munich battled all summer to get the German international to join them before Newcastle swooped in with a late bid that Bayern simply couldn't match.

Given how just two seasons prior, Woltemade was playing in the German third-tier before VfB Stuttgart gave him the platform to show what he could do in the Bundesliga.

Nick Woltemade admits it has been a very crazy year

---------------------------------------------------

While he and the rest of the Newcastle United team are still working on how to best fit together, he has still managed to notch six goals this season and is also now off the mark for the German senior side.

Speaking to RTL Sport (via [Bulinews](https://bulinews.com/woltemade-defends-wirtz-after-criticism-liverpool-doing-very-well)) while on international duty, Woltemade has taken some time to reflect on his whirlwind rise to the top.

> “It’s been a very crazy year. I’ve experienced so much – moments I never could have imagined before.

>

> "It’s sometimes hard to grasp. A year like this isn’t something you take for granted. I’m very grateful for it and want to keep working for such amazing moments.”

A goal or two for Germany would certainly help Woltemade's confidence

Woltemade will be looking to add to his solitary senior goal on Friday when they take on Luxembourg, with Slovakia up on Monday.

Another goal for his country will likely give him a nice confidence boost to bring back to Tyneside in the hope that he can push on and get back on the goal trail for the Toon.

His first task will be to outshine another giant striker in Erling Haaland when Newcastle take on Manchester City. Nice and easy game to come back to.
