Chelsea frontrunners to secure free agent – Blues move is likeliest outcome

Chelsea tried to sign Mike Maignan in the summer transfer window but didn’t succeed.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported a move worth €18m was close to being finalised.

Soon after that, Max Allegri was appointed as new AC Milan manager. He proved vital in keeping the Frenchman at the club.

While the Italian’s attempts worked some months ago, Maignan’s contract at Milan runs out in 2026 so Allegri may not win again. As things stand, the goalkeeper is on his way out on a free transfer.

Gazzetta dello Sport claim that even though Juventus are interested, Chelsea remain frontrunners for the goalkeeper.

To beat the London giants, the Old Lady are planning a move. They are hoping for an opening from the France international but find themselves at a significant disadvantage.

This’s because Maignan would rather join Chelsea or play in the Premier League. More than that, Juve will be unable to compete with the wages on offer from English clubs.

The Bianconeri are hoping for a dramatic turnaround. Only that will lead to them signing the 30-year-old.

There’s belief that as months pass by, more clubs could join the race. Enzo Maresca’s side are firmly in the driving seat and won’t have problems in meeting his wage demands.
