David Moyes sends strong message to Everton striker Thierno Barry - 'Let's hope'

Everton manager David Moyes has been explaining what he wants striker Thierno Barry to take from his reception against Fulham

David Moyes hopes that Everton striker Thierno Barry will get “great confidence” from the reception he received from home fans in the 2-0 win over Fulham at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

Despite netting 19 times last season – eight for Basel and 11 for Villarreal – the 23-year-old has failed to register for the Blues in 13 matches so far this term. However, having started the past two games against Sunderland and Fulham and produced arguably his most-impressive display to date since his £27million summer switch in the latter, earning him a standing ovation from the Everton faithful when he made way for Beto, Moyes his hoping that the France Under-21 international can now kick on.

The Blues boss told evertontv: “I thought Thierno had his best game for us. We need him to keep stepping up all the time, we need him to up his ante all the time. “There’s a great history of number nines at Everton Football Club and it’s not an easy thing to follow when you go back through time.

“Let’s hope maybe we can give him a little bit of respite. He’ll get more confidence from his performance, he’ll get great confidence from the support he had from the crowd. “It was a great, great way to see him because everybody knows we want him to do well. And he performed well, he really did.”

Barry himself took to social media after the game to thank the Everton fanbase for their support. The Lyon-born player told his 138,000 Instagram followers: “There are things that mean more than goals.

“With my difficult start to the season without scoring, receiving an ovation from you today really warmed my heart and showed me that I’m on the right path.

“Once again, thank you so much!”
