Legendary Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar is asking for prayers after he had a setback as he waits for a liver transplant.
Kosar provided an update on his health Wednesday on X, announcing that he was set to receive a liver transplant this past weekend, but he is dealing with an infection and bleeding.
He underwent multiple “aggressive” procedures earlier this week and is asking for prayers, as well as for purchases on his website, shopkosar.com.
“I could really use your love, support and actual prayers today,” Bernie Kosar said. “So as bad as I’m feeling and as much help and support as I could use from you today, please support us and all the other people that are so worse off than me.”
Kosar spent 12 seasons in the NFL, playing for the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins.
He was named a Pro Bowler in 1987 while playing for the Browns and also appeared in seven games for the Cowboys in 1993, making one start as Dallas went on to win the Super Bowl that year. He finished his career with the Dolphins from 1994-96.
The 61-year-old Kosar has been on a liver transplant list for more than a year. During most of that time, he has stayed relatively healthy thanks to a strict health regimen. However, he has dealt with multiple setbacks recently.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Bernie. We love you and are with you every step of the way,” the Cleveland Browns posted on X on Wednesday. “If anyone can stay strong through this, it’s you.”
