The Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, November 12 by a score of 130-116, largely inspired by a 55-point performance from three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. According to Clippers head coach Ty Lue, however, that was all part of their plan. Sort of.

Over his last six games, Nikola Jokic is averaging a triple-double with 35.8 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists per game, making him virtually unplayable at the present time.

Ty Lue’s answer to the Jokic problem, he said after the game, was to “make him score and take away his passing.” Unfortunately for Lue, by his own admission, and the Clippers, he didn’t “think” he’d put up 55 points (alongside 12 rebounds and 6 assists).

With the loss to the Nuggets, Lue’s Clippers dropped to 3-8 on the 2025 season, which is not where the aging win-now roster expected to start the campaign.

According to reports from over the weekend, the Clippers’ slow start to the season lead to a meeting between owner Steve Ballmer, president Lawrence Frank, and Lue, with reports indicating that Lue’s job security has become an increasing topic of discussion within the organization.

Lue has been the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers since 2020 after winning an NBA title in his first season as a head coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

Jokic and the Nuggets currently find themselves tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers as the team with the second shortest odds to win this season’s NBA championship at +700, which trails only the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder at +195.
