Patrick Bamford is not the only ex-Leeds United man Sheffield United just announced

Leeds fans will be surprised to see Patrick Bamford join Sheffield United on a deal until January.

It was the England international himself who started a controversial chant aimed at Chris Wilder a mere matter of months ago after Leeds secured promotion, only to now join the 58-year-old at Bramall Lane.

Before Sheffield United announced Patrick Bamford – however – the Blades unveiled the addition of another former Leeds man in Gary McSheffrey as part of the backroom staff on a permanent basis.

Sheffield United have now announced that the 43-year-old will become a permanent part of Wilder’s coaching team, having been promoted from his Development Coach role.

Some Leeds fans may not remember McSheffrey at Elland Road considering he only racked up 11 appearances while on loan from Birmingham in the 2009/10 campaign, but he still made quite the impact.

The man born in Coventry, where Bamford was training recently, won the Player of the Match award after a stunning debut in a 2-0 League One victory over Colchester United at Elland Road in January 2010.

It came just one day after his arrival.

McSheffrey also immediately endeared himself to fans by saying “there’d be no better club to be with at Championship level” when discussing an Elland Road stay in the event of promotion.

So, Bamford is clearly not the only ex-Leeds man Wilder has called upon in an attempt to drag Sheffield United to safety.

Leeds United got the better of recent dealings with Sheffield United

Leeds and Sheffield United do not often directly trade between each other, but they did when the Blades sanctioned the £5m sale of Jayden Bogle in July 2024.

It seemed like an uninspiring deal at the time, but the 25-year-old has developed into an important player at Elland Road.

Bogle earned a spot in the Championship Team of the Season last term, and has started all 11 Premier League games so far this season – showing just how much Daniel Farke trusts him.
