Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has his sights set on the AFC West title amid a rocky 2025 NFL season for the defending AFC champions. After a dramatic loss in Super Bowl LIX, the Chiefs entered the campaign with something to prove.
After nine weeks of action, Kansas City has a 5-4 record, which ranks third in the division standings. They lost to the Los Angeles Chargers (7-3) in the season opener, and a loss against the Denver Broncos (8-2) in Week 11 would put them in a complex position for the rest of the season.

There is a big chance that the Chiefs lose their division throne this campaign, but Mahomes still has hopes of seeing his squad succeed.
“That’s always our first goal,” Mahomes said of winning the AFC West, via Pro Football Talk. “It’s like the first goal we have that coach Reid puts up, is win the division, and we understand that it’s always a challenge and you have to go up against really good football teams that are scouting you all year long. We’ve been really good at that over these last seven, eight, nine years — whatever it is. We got to continue to get better and better.
“We have a lot of division games in front of us. If we can go out there and handle business and do what I think we can do, we can find a way to win this division. Everything is out in front of us, we just have to go out there with the right mindset.”

Mahomes has dominated the Broncos since he became the Chiefs’ full-time starting quarterback. He holds a 13-1 record against Denver, but this team looks different this season.
They already took the Chiefs to distance last season, making them win the game on a last-second field goal in Week 10. Mahomes and Co. need to start winning now, or the season will get more complicated.
