Two-time Pro Bowl CB stepping away from football week after trade to Eagles

Jaire Alexander has stepped away from the Philadelphia Eagles to focus on getting right physically and mentally from knee surgery he had earlier this year, according to multiple reports.

The Eagles placed the cornerback on the reserve/retired list.

Alexander, who was traded to the reigning Super Bowl champions from the Baltimore Ravens at this year’s trade deadline earlier this month, has not retired but is contemplating taking that path, ESPN reported.

The 28-year-old was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Green Bay Packers and had 12 interceptions in seven seasons during his tenure there. But he’s dealt with injuries throughout his career, including a torn PCL last year that led to knee surgery in January.

The Ravens healthy scratched Alexander twice this season. He was active in Week 6, but didn’t see playing time.

Once a dominant corner in the NFL, Alexander going from a starter to a reserve role this season in Baltimore “came with a mental toll,” ESPN reported, that led Alexander to stepping away.

In his last two full seasons, Alexander has been limited to just 14 games.
