Sunday could feature a tryout of sorts when the Packers and Green Bay defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley visit the Giants, who will soon be looking for a new head coach.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Wednesday that an NFL owner recently called him out about Hafley being a strong fit for the open Giants job.
“He goes, ‘Do you have any names that you think could be on the radar?’” Schefter said on ESPN.
Schefter responded that one name that he thinks is interesting is Hafley, who is from Montvale, because of his Jersey ties.
“And he goes ‘I’m so glad you said that. I was calling to tell you that Jeff Hafley would be an amazing choice for the Giants, and I just want you to know that.’”
Schefter said he was speaking to a “random owner.”
The Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Monday after their Week 10 collapse against the Bears, in which they held a 10-point lead in the third quarter.
In his first season with the Giants in 2022, Daboll went 9-7-1 and won a wild-card playoff game in Minnesota. He was named Coach of the Year.
Since then, he has gone 6-11 in 2023, 3-14 in 2024 and now 2-8 this year.
Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as interim head coach for the Giants.
