Big twist emerges regarding future of"top class"Liverpool player and accepting offer

**Ibrahima Konate’s future continues to be a big talking point at Liverpool, and a new update has dropped regarding the Reds accepting an offer for him.**

The Frenchman has been one of Liverpool’s most disappointing performers this season, not even getting close to the standards expected of him.

Konate’s current Reds deal expires at the end of the current campaign, with the 26-year-old yet to decide if he will sign a new deal or move elsewhere, namely Real Madrid.

Speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpool-could-now-accept-big-ibrahima-konate-january-offer/), former scout Mick Brown claimed that Liverpool could now accept an offer for their centre-back in the January transfer window, in a new twist in the saga:

_“I think, if it comes to it, Liverpool will want to take the money._ _They’ll want to make the most money possible out of him if it looks like he’ll be leaving either way, so a big offer in January could tempt them to sell._ _The only issue with that is, who do they get in to replace him? They’ll want to do that first._

_“I’ve said for a while, they haven’t been completely happy with him despite the success they’ve had, so the chance to find somebody better is there._ _They’re confident they can upgrade on him, because they’ve had concerns about him for a while and they were on show again in that game against Man City._

_“There was a definite ploy by City to make Liverpool play to Konate and let him have the ball._ _Then they would press, because he’s liable to make a mistake, and that’s all you need to know about how he is viewed in that Liverpool team.”_

**No sense in selling Konate in January**

------------------------------------------

While Konate’s form this season has been a disappointment, selling him in January would be a bizarre decision, considering Liverpool are already lacking depth in defence.

Granted, it would mean the Reds could earn a fee instead of losing him for nothing next summer, but it would still be the wrong call.

Opinion may be split over Konate’s future among Liverpool fans, in terms of whether they want him to stay – he has been called “top class” by [Micah Richards](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/clylv5ml7dvo) in the past – but he will have to improve hugely to justify a contract extension.
