Man United could loan out exciting 19yo star in January despite recent comeback

Manchester United could send one of their brightest young talents out on loan when the January transfer window opens.

According to German journalist Christopher Michel, Man United are planning to loan Sekou Kone out in the winter so that he can gain professional playing time at another club.

Kone moved to Old Trafford from the Malian side Guidars FC in the summer of 2024.

The club opted to place him in the academy for the 2024–25 season, allowing him to adapt to the tempo and physical demands of English football.

The 19-year-old is a highly rated holding midfielder who could evolve into one of the best players of his generation.

Kone has caught the eye with his commanding performances for the Under-21s and has also trained regularly with Ruben Amorim’s senior squad.

He was widely expected to make his senior debut this season before disaster struck in August when he suffered a fractured eye socket.

He was stretchered off and rushed to hospital in an ambulance, forcing the game to be abandoned.

Kone made his return as a substitute against League Two side Notts County in the EFL Trophy last week.

The teenage sensation is seen as a perfect successor to Casemiro but repeated injuries have halted his development regularly.

It is a surprise to see United planning a loan move for Kone.

His services could be useful in the second half of the season, especially with Manuel Ugarte failing to provide assurance in the middle.

An injury to Casemiro could make Ruben Amorim’s system unstable.

We believe the club would be wiser to keep the teenager in-house and ease him into senior football through the FA Cup and late-season fixtures.
