Red Sox Fans Hoping For Joe Ryan Trade Won’t Like Latest News

Boston Red Sox fans have been looking forward to a Joe Ryan trade for months. The Minnesota Twins pitcher reportedly almost landed with the Red Sox at the 2025 trade deadline (FOX Sports even inaccurately reported that a trade had gone down before removing the post). Now, the Boston entering a new transaction cyle and still on the prowl for a No. 2 starter, Ryan’s name continues to surface. Red Sox fans with an eye on Ryan might want to temper their expectations, however. New intel from FanSided’s MLB insider Robert Murray reveals that Minnesota wants Ryan to stay put. “Twins will listen on Joe Ryan but prefer to keep him,” Murray wrote this week, reporting from the MLB General Manager meetings in Las Vegas. Murray also shared a related quote from Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey. “Our focus, and my goal, has been figuring out how to add around the group we already have,” Falvey said, per Murray. “We think our starting pitching is the strength of this team. We know Pablo (Lopez) and Joe have been real anchors for us the last couple years when healthy. We have Bailey Ober coming back in a healthy spot and then all of the young pitching that we acquired, whether it’s Taj (Bradley) and Mick Abel who we just acquired to join Zebby (Matthews) and Simeon (Woods Richardson) and David Festa and others. We like that group.” Story continues below advertisement Ryan, 29, won’t become a free agent until after the 2027 season. The Red Sox may indeed still be pursuing him via trade, but from the sound of Falvey’s comments, it would probably take a steep price to pry Ryan out of Minnesota.
