Wolves have the chance to bring in some more quality in the January transfer window following Rob Edwards’ arrival
Wolves boss Rob Edwards will be looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad. The former Forest Green Rovers, Watford and Luton Town man has been lured back to Molineux as Vitor Pereira’s replacement. He has left Middlesbrough in the Championship in the process.
Edwards has joined a side who sit bottom of the Premier League table. The Midlands outfit are winless in their first 11 fixtures and are inside the drop zone with Nottingham Forest and West Ham. They lost 3-0 away at Chelsea last time out before the international break and are eight points from safety behind Burnley.
Wolves should eye Aiden Morris at Middlesbrough
Wolves have been linked with Middlesbrough ace Hayden Hackney in the past and the same is likely to happen again ahead of January now following Edwards’ appointment. However, he is likely to be expensive and there would probably be competition for his signature. Therefore, they should look at alternatives.
Boro midfielder Aidan Morris would be a cheaper alternative and would be a shrewd addition. He is under contract at the Riverside Stadium until June 2028. The USA international, who has 11 caps to his name, has adapted well to life in England since his move in 2024.
The Florida-born man caught the eye at Columbus Crew in MLS before his switch to Middlesbrough. He made 104 appearances during his time in America and scored seven goals. Morris has since become an important player for his current club and has made 54 outings, 15 of which have come in this campaign, chipping in with four assists.
Why Aiden Morris would suit Wolves
If Wolves landed Morris, he would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park. He has proved that he can perform in the second tier and a step up to the top flight will be the next natural step for his career down the line. He will also have one eye on the World Cup next year and a switch to the Premier League would put himself firmly on the big stage.
Even if Edwards’ side are relegated this term, bringing in Morris would be a shrewd acqusition with one eye on next season. They would be acquiring a ready-made star for the Championship and someone who is proven at that level. He is still relatively young and has potential to get better in the future.
After signing him for Middlesbrough, their former manager Carrick said at the time: “We're delighted to welcome Aidan to the club. He's a good player. He suits our style of play, he's strong, he likes to get on the ball, and he plays off both feet. He's a good age, but he's already had a taste of success and he has a good amount of experience. We're excited to work with him."
Hackney is evidently Boro’s main man and Morris has been quietly going about his business next to him. Edwards will know all about his quality though and he is an option for him this winter. It remains to be seen what direction Wolves will take in regards to their recruitment when the window opens up.
They are crying out for some new faces though to freshen things up. Next up is a home clash against Crystal Palace next weekend as they hunt for their first three points. Their upcoming opponents drew 0-0 with rivals Brighton and Hove Albion in their last game.
