Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovačić is currently in a protective boot after [undergoing surgery](https://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-city-player-to-undergo-surgery-expected-to-be-out-until-february/) on a heel injury.
[That’s according to Sportske Novosti](https://sportske.jutarnji.hr/sn/nogomet/premiership/mateo-kovacic-operacija-pete-povratak-bez-bolova-15642291), who detail what’s going on with the Manchester City midfielder at this moment in time.
He’s been missing for Manchester City at the start of this season. And SN now report he underwent surgery last Friday on ‘calcifications’ that had grown in his heel area. The procedure was performed by the same doctor who worked on him in early June.
That treatment at that point was to free him of Haglund’s heel, a growth that was causing him great pain and limiting his movements.
Things went smoothly in that and Kovačić returned to training successfully with Manchester City. But calcifications formed in the heel area and were causing pain when he was lifting weights.
Conservative therapy using shock waves was tried initially but Manchester City eventually went down the surgery route. This was in agreement with the London doctor.
Kovačić must now wear a special boot to protect the operated area. He can take this off to bandage his leg and clean the area, though. He also has to ice the area on his leg every two hours.
The plan is for him to travel to London next week, on November 20th, with Manchester City’s club doctors, for a check-up and removal of stitches. The hope is that Kovačić will be left with no pain at all.
The rehabilitation in these cases usually lasts around four months. The plan with Kovačić is that he’ll return in early March. That will give him time for the end of the season and to be ready for the World Cup, if all goes to plan.
