Leeds United talent opens door for 2026 transfer - Daniel Farke sack decision vital

Leeds United forward Mateo Joseph is enjoying his time on loan at Mallorca this season, looking to maintain his regular starting spot and solid form.

The Whites could do with more firepower in the Premier League this season. However, one player they sent out on loan in order to gain valuable experience was Mateo Joseph.

Joseph tarted the first block of games in the 24/25 Championship campaign. But, he lost his starting berth indefinitely and made his thoughts clear in the summer window, pushing to leave in a perhaps unsavoury manner.

How is Mateo Joseph getting on at Mallorca in La Liga?

The Spaniard headed to La Liga during the summer, as he moved to mid-table side Mallorca. It was an intriguing move, with Jagoba Arrasate’s side the third-lowest scorers last season.

However, regular top flight opportunities have been in good supply for Joseph so far and he’s repaying that faith with some impressive performances.

Joseph boasts two goals and two assists to his name this season. Both well-taken strikes came in the same game away to Sevilla last month.

The red-hot form of fellow striker Vedat Muriqi (six goals) means Joseph hasn’t been able to build on his brace by getting starts up front, though. Instead, to get both Muriqi and the Leeds loanee in the same lineup, Joseph has been deployed out of position as a right-winger or a 10.

Mateo Joseph discusses Mallorca transfer and future transfer prospects in 2026

The Leeds youngster is grateful for the opportunity to get top flight exposure that wasn’t likely to come at Elland Road. He spoke to Marca this week about why he opted to join Mallorca, having fielded interest from Real Betis and Girona too.

“In the end, Mallorca did an exceptional job, both sports director and coach,” he said. “They transmitted to me the trust they had in me and that convinced me from the first moment. They knew me very well and had a lot of faith in me and I want to return that trust.”

Joseph was also asked on his views about staying at Mallorca beyond his loan with a permanent transfer.

“Yes, I’m very happy here. But well, you never know, I would tell you that it doesn’t depend much on me right now either, but we’ll see.”

Daniel Farke’s sacking (or not) could decide what Leeds United do with Mateo Joseph

What Leeds do with Joseph at the end of this season probably hinges on two quite important factors: what division the club are in, and what manager is in the dugout.

Farke was justified in dropping Joseph for Joel Piroe last season. But, in completely snubbing Joseph’s development from thereon, the striker is also justified for wanting to leave in the summer to actually play some football.

Going forward, how Leeds handle Joseph will depend on if Farke’s still here. Firstly, if Farke is sacked, Joseph will be eager to impress a different manager, regardless of the division we’re in.

Then, it depends on what division Leeds are in. In the Championship, he could be a guaranteed starter for us, having worked on some of his flaws this season. If we’re still in the Premier League, he could be a decent squad option. Or, he could be someone that helps us satisfy PSR through a major sale.
