Jets-Patriots weather: Alarming weather forecast has fans scrambling for extra layers

Fans attending the Jets-Patriots game at Gillette Stadium should prepare for a cold afternoon as temperatures steadily fall and showers arrive this evening (8:15 p.m. EST).

Temperatures will hover near 50 degrees early in the afternoon, though conditions will feel more like 42 degrees. By 4 p.m., temperatures will drop to 47 degrees, with the RealFeel plunging into the 30s as early as 3 p.m., according to Accuweather.

West-northwest winds will blow steadily at 15 to 16 mph throughout the day, with gusts reaching up to 31 mph.

Showers are expected to begin around 6 p.m, dampening any plans for tailgating. About 0.01 inches of rain could fall during this time. The temperature will be 42 degrees, but the RealFeel will be just 29 degrees. Conditions will clear to partly cloudy skies about an hour before kickoff.

By 11 p.m., the temperature will sink to 35 degrees with a RealFeel of 23 degrees, which forecasters classify as “very cold.”

The Jets will be without wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Azareye’h Thomas in a Week 11 matchup marked by significant injury concerns for both teams.

The Jets ruled out Wilson, who is dealing with a knee injury, and Thomas, who is in concussion protocol, according to the final injury report released Nov. 12. Neither player participated in practice throughout the week.

Five additional Jets players carry questionable designations heading into Thursday’s game.

Defensive lineman Harrison Phillips remained limited in Wednesday’s practice due to a foot injury after sitting out Monday and Tuesday sessions. Edge rusher Will McDonald IV, dealing with a quad issue, also logged limited participation on Wednesday after returning to practice in a limited capacity on Tuesday.

Defensive lineman Braiden McGregor participated on a limited basis all week as he manages a shoulder injury. Running back Khalil Herbert and offensive lineman Xavier Newman showed improvement during the week, advancing to full participation by Wednesday despite groin and ankle injuries, respectively. Linebacker Kiko Mauigoa practiced without restrictions all week and is expected to suit up.
